2011 is the year of change for SANHU and it started with a bang!
After 13 years in the Kruger National Park, SANHU relocated to Bone Idol Private Reserve near Nelspruit, where we are building brand new offices and edit suites, which should be fully operational by the end of May 2011.
In January, producer Christian Herrmann from ARD TV Channel in Germany came to South Africa for a recce that resulted in a contract between SANHU and the broadcaster to film and facilitate three documentaries over the next year.
In April, Christian returned for the filming of the ‘Big Tuskers’ with Dr Johan Marais from Onderstepoort and ‘Baobabs’ with botanist Michele Hofmeyr from SanParks’. The SANHU crew and scientists went on a successful two-week shoot to Letaba and Pafuri in the Kruger National Park.
As part of the ‘Big Tusker’ documentary, Jacques and Ludwig were invited by Dr Johan Marais to film an elephant vasectomy in early May on a private reserve in the Hoedspruit area.
Christian will be back several times over the next year. August will see operation ‘Ground Hornbill’ spring into action when Jacques will build a nest-cam that will give us a unique look into the nesting behaviour of these well-loved birds. |
